A Pony Named Sam

Sam was a real Shetland Pony who belonged to the Vickery family in Alabama. A free-spirited and peaceful character, his adventures were told and retold by many generations. Sam's human family adored him and always found humor in his wily ways.

Anamaria Verona Iosif Ross is a Romanian-American mother and  anthropologist. She had the privilege to know and love the Vickery family and their legendary household pets. Anamaria lives in the foothills of the Adirondack mountains with her two children and husband David Ross, who also writes. They cherish a soccer-playing border collie named Poppy and a bob-tailed cat named Enso, who has two different eyes, yellow-green and crystal-blue. They might be the heroes of the next book.

The two illustrators of “A Pony Named Sam”, Maria PoÈ™tea and Bogdan Gărgăriță, are a couple of Romanian artists who both graduated the National University of Arts in Bucharest and are members of the Romanian Artists’ Union. Together, they founded Intaglio Publishing House in 2017 where they publish illustrated books for children and art books for adults. Bogdan has been illustrating since 1997, Maria since 2010. Both teach art courses during the school year and enjoy sharing their decades of experience in summer art camps and retreats for children, teens, and adults. They love making one-of-a-kind animal portraits. You can find more of their books and other offerings on our website or on Facebook at Editura Intaglio.
